Driveway gate

A vehicle gate spanning a driveway entry. Built as a single swing, double swing, sliding, cantilever, or telescopic gate depending on the site.

Driveway gate is a use category, not a construction type. Any gate that spans a vehicle entry counts. Australian residential driveway gates are commonly 3.0 to 6.0 m wide and 1.5 to 2.1 m tall.

The construction type follows the site. Double-swing gates suit driveways with clear front and rear space (no parking right inside the gate). Sliding gates suit driveways with runout space along the fence. Cantilever gates suit driveways where the floor must stay clear. Telescopic gates suit driveways where neither swing nor full slide runout is available.

Regardless of type, a driveway gate carries a heavier hinge or roller spec than a pedestrian gate of the same height, because the leaf is longer and the leverage on the leading edge is greater. CAD60's driveway gate models default to 65x35 RHS frames or heavier, and offer SHS posts up to 125x125 for the larger leaves.
