A pool fence prevents young children gaining unsupervised access to a swimming pool. Australian Standard AS1926.1-2012 sets the prescriptive requirements for a private-pool barrier:
- Minimum barrier height: 1200 mm.
- Maximum gap between vertical members: 100 mm (a 100 mm sphere shall not pass).
- Maximum gap below the barrier: 100 mm.
- A non-climbable zone of 900 mm radius outside the fence (no horizontal members or footholds in this zone).
- Pool gates must be self-closing and self-latching, opening outward from the pool.
- The latch must be at least 1500 mm above ground or 1400 mm above any climbable surface.
CAD60's pool-fence-panel model constrains parameters to the dimensional limits in AS 1926.1-2012 (≥1200 mm height, ≤100 mm gaps, ≤100 mm ground clearance). Installed-system compliance, including non-climbable zones, gates, surrounding structures, and finished ground level, is the responsibility of the pool owner and must be verified by a registered pool safety inspector in your jurisdiction.
